Studies show that white wine contains an acid that can increase the dark dental stains you get from drinking things like tea.

What Studies say About White Wine

Researchers at NYU have compared the staining effects of both red and white wines. This led to the discovery that white wine's acidity leaves your teeth more susceptible to tea stains. The tannins in white wine act as a binding protein.

They help chromogens saturate your tooth's surface, which inadvertently causes you to discolor your teeth. Of course, every time you do this you inadvertently increase the amount of stains that are on your teeth.

When researchers looked at white wine in more depth, they found that it isn't the white wine itself that stains. It's what you eat and drink with your wine that really matters. For instance, when you drink white wine with a snack of white grapes and cheese you won't see any staining.

Additionally, brushing your teeth right after you sip on some white wine can also make the problem worse. This is because you'll damage your tooth's structure since saliva re-mineralizes your tooth's structure and neutralizes the damage. Instead, you should wait 40 - 60 minutes before brushing your teeth.

Ultimately, the answer to whether or not white wine actually stains your teeth is ""yes."" So, when you're concerned about how your teeth look, you may want to consider your teeth whitening options. Things like the whitening process and veneers will both make your teeth look whiter and brighter. These are options are office can offer you.
