Clear Invisalign® AlignersIf you are in need of orthodontic treatment, Acree & Isenhower Family Dentistry offers Invisalign as a strong alternative to traditional braces. In recent years, Invisalign has become increasingly popular with both our teenage and adult patients. That is because Invisalign uses discrete plastic trays, rather than metal brackets, wires, and rubber bands. Invisalign is often the perfect choice for patients with minor to moderate tooth alignment issues. In some cases, an orthodontic problem may be too complex to be treated with Invisalign. The following information is designed to help educate you on the use and benefits of Invisalign. The Invisalign ProcessDuring a consultation visit, Dr. Acree or Dr. Isenhower will determine if you are a suitable candidate for Invisalign treatment. Once we have determined you are a good candidate, we will take photographs of your teeth and face, make dental impressions of your teeth, and take a few x-rays. The impressions will be turned into a 3D digital model of your teeth. This model will be used to create a series of plastic aligner trays that move your teeth into the appropriate position. It typically takes about four weeks to fabricate aligner trays. You will wear each tray for a period of two weeks. During this time, the tray will put a slight amount of pressure on your teeth. Each tray is sequential and moves your teeth to a straighter position than the previous tray. Once you have your aligners, we will ask you to wear them for an average of 22 to 24 hours a day. Aligners should only be removed during meals, when you drink liquids besides water, and when you brush and floss your teeth. The success of your Invisalign treatment depends entirely on your commitment to wear the trays. For our teenaged patients, we know this can be a challenge. That is why each Invisalign Teen tray comes with an indicator dot that disappears with proper use. Invisalign treatment can last anywhere from six to 18 months, depending on individual circumstance. During this time, you will need to schedule an appointment every four to six weeks, so we can monitor your progress. Once you are finished with treatment, you should protect your investment. Most Invisalign patients chose clear plastic retainers to maintain a straight smile well beyond treatment. Other retainers are also available. The Benefits of Invisalign
