If you keep your regular checkups with us, chances are your teeth will be in great shape for many years, but you should also try to keep a healthy diet to reduce the chances of having problems. Here are a few examples of foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals.
Calcium and Vitamin DCalcium is essential to having good, strong teeth and bones. You can find calcium in dairy products such as milk (reduced fat), cheese, yogurt, broccoli, salmon, fish, soybeans, and dark leafy green vegetables. Vitamin D, helps to absorb the calcium and phosphate, the minerals that make up the teeth.
Vitamin D is also excellent for protecting the immune system and fighting off gum disease and cavities. This is the easiest vitamin to get, by exposure to direct sunlight, but you can also include tuna, liver, salmon, and eggs in your diet. Foods that are enriched with vitamin D are milk and orange juice are also a good choice.
Folic AcidFolic acid belongs to the B vitamin family and is responsible for preventing gum inflammation and periodontal disease.
Folic acid is extremely important if you are pregnant, but you should also try to include foods that are rich in folic acid in your diet, such as kale, asparagus, broccoli, and spinach. In order to get their full benefit, these foods should be eaten raw.
ZincHelps the mouth control plaque by preventing bacteria growth. Foods rich in zinc are legumes, whole grains, oysters, and red meats.
